Position Summary:
The Senior Student Advocate will be responsible to work with the student and families in supporting the student to achieve their best in both academic and non-academic environments. The Senior Student Advocate is responsible for working with both students and families to address social and emotional needs, assisting in identifying attendance and academic concerns and setting goals. The Senior Student Advocate will work with school and site staff to create and develop a healthy partnership between the families, school and Phipps Neighborhoods. If needed, the Senior Student Advocate will refer participants to additional resources and services either, through Phipps, the school or an external organization.
Phipps Neighborhoods seeks full-time Senior Student Advocates to fill positions at varying worksites in the Bronx. Work schedule is Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week and hours are based on worksite needs.

- Maintain a caseload of students/families for ongoing outreach
- Conduct intake interviews and ongoing assessments of youth & families
- Conduct regular home visits for youth and families
- Make regular contact with youth and families in and out of school
- Provide goal oriented case management to designated caseload
- Conduct mediations between student and/or families
- Provide ongoing attendance outreach to identified families
- Make and monitor referrals for students/families as deemed necessary
- Utilize a restorative practice approach
- Provide crisis intervention
- Document progress made with students/families in a timely manner
- Build relationships with students, staff & CBO partners
- Support Expanded Learning Time activities for the school
- Assist in facilitation of Extended Day Programming
- Provide classroom support as deemed appropriate
- Regularly attend school meetings in regards to students on caseload
- Conduct groups with students to address social/emotional growth
- Provide students with support for attendance, academics & extended day learning
- Integrate into the daily functioning of the school
- Participate in school & community wide initiatives
- Participate in school/CBO team meetings
- Provide support to achievement Specialist
- Other duties as assigned by Community School Director
Qualifications/Experience
- Bachelors
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in youth development
- Experience working with urban youth in low-income communities
- Ability to maintain written documentation
- Flexibility
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer literacy
- Enthusiasm, creativity and initiative
- A sense of humor and a sense of urgency
- Ability to work on multiple projects at one time
- Ability to complete work in a fast paced/high demand environment
- Bilingual (Spanish), preferred
- Experience using student data to guide practice, preferred
