Schedule: Hybrid: 4 days on-site, 1 day remote

Work location: Administrative Office, 50 Broadway


Position Overview:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and working under limited supervision, the Senior Accountant plays a key role in NCS’s ability to meet its program goals. The Senior Accountant is responsible for various activities including state and federal grant reporting and invoicing, allocating payroll, providing accounts payable and receivable support and tracking grants and donations, among other functions.

The Senior Accountant will ensure that financial records, reports, vouchers, billings, time/leaves, and any other financial records are maintained in compliance with funder, auditor, agency, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Fiscal Management, billing and compliance with requirements of government and private funding sources. Liaise with government funders by managing the financial aspect of the relationship; Grant accounting.
  • Coordinate audit activity and any other on-site reviews of the organization’s financial records and/or systems in collaboration with the CFO.
  • Create, in collaboration with Leadership Team, NCS’ annual budget.
  • Generate regular financial reports (budget to actuals) and review for potential savings, service opportunities or budget modifications.
  • Ensure accuracy of the General Ledger.
  • Supervise Bookkeeper: Oversee responsibilities pertaining to accounts payable, purchase orders; the processing, recording and reconciliation of Cash Receipts and Cash Receipt journals to reconcile data between official financial records and the Development Department’s database.
  • Process Payroll (in Paycom) including allocation of salaries.
  • Analyze investments.
  • Administer and disburse clients’ funds in escrow accounts.
  • Maintain accounts receivable ledger including reconciliation.
  • Prepare Consolidated Fiscal Report.
  • Reconcile all NCS bank accounts.
  • Coordinate Medicare Managed Care billing with NCS’ Biller and Bookkeeper.
  • Process all employees’ benefits payments and allocations in collaboration with the Human Resources department.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across all levels to uphold high standards of service delivery.

A successful Senior Accountant…

  • Has experience managing the budget and financial processes of an organization or specifically a nonprofit.
  • Has at least a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, along with a minimum of 3 years of relevant accounting/finance experience, or a track record as a Senior Accountant/Accountant within a nonprofit organization.
  • Is fluent in the following software:

o FundEZ

o Microsoft Excel

o Paycom, a plus

o Foothold’s AWARDS, a plus

  • Has experience preparing for annual audit along with CFO.
  • Understands revenue and expense allocations and can track those allocations against dynamic budgets.
  • Creates contract and budgeting forecasting models and can present those models in an easy to understand manner.
  • Has proven track record with government social service contracting, particularly NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, DHS, HUD, Medicaid reimbursement, and housing finance.
  • Is highly detail-oriented and an effective English language written and verbal communicator.
  • Has strong organizational skills.
  • Has an eye towards improvement – identifies needs and creates and implements a plan for driving improvement.
  • Dependable with unwavering integrity.

SALARY RANGE: $77,000 – $85,000

Final salary will be determined based on various factors which may include internal equity, work experience, skills, knowledge, and/or education and/or certifications.
