Position Summary:

The Security Coordinator supervises Shift Supervisors and Safety Monitors and has overall responsibility for continuous safety and order in the assigned facility and for the training, scheduling, and management of the Safety Monitors and Shift Supervisors. The Security Coordinator ensures the facility has 24-hour security coverage, 365 days a year, and that the Shift Supervisor manages shifts and posts accordingly. S/he oversees all security operations of the facility, including exits, entries and associated tasks such as sign-in books, security screening procedures, and enforcement of relevant policies. The Security Coordinator triages incidents and is responsible for their accurate assessment, response, and documentation, along with timely and comprehensive completion of risk management and prevention activities such as foot patrols, fire drills, and other activities.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedule daily and weekly assignments for Safety Monitors and Shift Supervisors and monitor performance
  • Effectively communicate shift assignments and work schedules to ensure facility coverage per BronxWorks and regulatory requirements, participate in rotation of task assignments
  • Provide and/or manage facility crisis intervention
  • Oversee fire prevention and related safety measures, including monthly fire drills
  • Report issues, concerns, needs, accomplishments accordingly to the Security Director and Residence Director
  • Ensure Residence Directors, Social Service Directors, and relevant direct service staff are informed of incidents as appropriate and ensure mandated reports by security personnel are timely, accurate, and complete
  • Submit accurate, complete and time monthly security reports to the Security Director
  • Ensure security staff obtain and maintain all required licenses and certifications
  • Ensure records, reports and logs are kept and maintained in a uniform, consistent manner and appropriately reviewed
  • Supervise and perform client service tasks, including providing information on meals, distributing passes, supporting enforcement of meal times
  • Enter incident reports into CARES per DHS priority outline within 24 hours; report Priority 1 incidents immediately to supervisor and to DHS within 1 hour
  • Review Safety Monitor incident reports for accuracy and completeness
  • Complete Safety Monitor and Shift Supervisor performance evaluations, progress reports, and disciplinary memos
  • Provide, coordinate and deliver training for security personnel
  • Oversee continuous quality and process improvement in security policies, procedures, equipment
  • Responsible for recruiting, screening, hiring adequate staff to ensure continuous coverage
  • Enforce facility, BronxWorks, DHS, and other regulatory policies and procedures
  • Act professionally and with empathy towards clients; utilize appropriate de-escalation, crisis intervention, and appropriate incident management skills
  • Serve as a liaison between the facility and community stakeholders and contacts such as Community Boards, NYPD, and others
  • Attend local precinct community council meetings
  • Respond promptly and in compliance with established policies and procedures to onsite observed or suspected physical or verbal altercations

  • Complete all required documentation of activities promptly, completely, and in the appropriate format (ie., written incident report, AWARDS or CARES database, etc.)
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 is Required.
  • Operates in a residential facility for single adults and/or families with onsite social service and office environments
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
  • Facilities operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Employees may be assigned to more than one facility if necessary

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience Required:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience or training as a security guard or safety monitor or shift supervisor
  • At least 3 years of experience supervising others in a work environment

Certifications & Licenses Required:

  • New York State Security Guard Registration Card
  • FDNY F-80 Fire Safety Coordinator certification
  • CPR/First Aid
  • Narcan administration
  • CPI training/certification
  • DHS Mental Health First Aid

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust and effective professional relationship
  • Ability to lead and manage others
  • Ability to ensure and monitor work schedules that span 24-hour periods
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology
  • Understanding of and commitment to organization’s mission, vision, and values
  • Ability and willingness to perform all duties as workload necessitates
  • Ability to drag at least 80 pounds
  • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to travel throughout New York City via public transportation

Education, Certifications & Licenses Preferred:

  • New York Fire Department Certificate of Fitness as Fire Guard, Shelters
  • New York State Security Guard Registration Card
  • 16 Hour Security Guard Training Certificate
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study
  • More than five (5) years supervisory experience
  • Experience in law enforcement
