ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION | A pioneering not-for-profit affordable housing developer and community programs initiator in New York City, Settlement Housing Fund, Inc. has worked since 1969 to create more than 9,000 apartments through 73 affordable rental and homeownership development projects. Settlement Housing presently owns and maintains 50 buildings with more than 3,100 apartments throughout New York City, with concentrations of housing and services in the Mt. Eden and Fordham Heights sections of the Bronx, Crown Heights, Brooklyn, the Lower East Side, as well as other sites throughout Manhattan. The organization is working on a growing pipeline of new construction and preservation projects throughout the city, and expanding its Resident Engagement Services to meet the housing stability needs of households leaving shelter and other at-risk tenants.
Settlement Housing Fund is the parent organization of The Crenulated Company, LTD dba New Settlement which was created in 1989 with the acquisition of 14 abandoned buildings from the City of New York. New Settlement has evolved into a robust social service organization offering a range of community-based services in education, college access, youth development, arts, workforce development, community organizing, wellness and other key services that provide important resources to the neighborhood’s youth and families. New Settlement’s success has been achieved through close collaboration with a wide range of educational institutions, housing and community development organizations, businesses, youth development and social service agencies – in the neighborhood, Bronx-wide, across New York and nationally. DESCRIPTION | JOB SUMMARY: Based in the Taft Educational Campus, this full-time college and career advisor under the direction of the Director, Student Success Center will be responsible for:Job Duties include but not limited to:Operate a full-service college and career advising office for students and families (including one-to-one college advising, college fairs, college-awareness workshops, college trips, Family Nights, collaborative events, etc.)Lead the development and implementation of a coordinated, multi-year program of individual counseling, group workshops and leadership training that is designed to support college awareness, access and success of high-school studentsSupervise 2 youth leaders and a college bridge coachCollaborate with school administrators and staff on an ongoing basis to ensure program participation and success, including attendance at all relevant school meetings.Build partnerships with diverse educational institutions and organizationsMaintain records on students’ involvement in the program and their progress toward educational goalsMaintain and disseminate information about standardized tests such as SAT/Subject Tests, ACT, and PSAT.Stay current on the latest trends in college access and success.Demonstrate commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social changeOther duties as requestedQUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: B.A., B.S.
