Job Summary:
WHEDco seeks a Resident Engagement Manager to join its Housing/Real Estate Department. The
Resident Engagement Manager will support, engage, and advocate on behalf of residents of WHEDco’s
three affordable housing developments in the South Bronx – Urban Horizons, Intervale Green, and
Bronx Commons. The Resident Engagement Manager will conduct assessments and provide internal
referrals to WHEDco’s Family Support team for individual case management, benefits access, mental
health, and other services, as well as external referrals to community partners for services beyond
WHEDco’s expertise and capacity. The Resident Engagement Manager will organize resident
engagement activities and will support an inclusive, informed, and stable resident community. A central
focus of this role will be to work with residents to support them in maintaining their housing, avoiding
accruing rental arrears and/or paying off rental arrears, and ensuring that they attain public benefits,
housing assistance, legal assistance, employment/vocational training, mental health services, and other
critical resources that help them remain stably housed.
Responsibilities:

  • Organize, facilitate, and manage advocacy and case management services for building residents
    according to WHEDco protocols, including for households that exited the shelter system and/or
    that are at risk for homelessness.
  • In collaboration with the Housing/Real Estate Department and third-party property
    management teams, assist residents to ensure that their monthly rental payments (individual
    and subsidy) are made in a timely manner.
  • Assess and refer individual residents for internal and external services in areas such as mental
    health, domestic violence, crisis intervention, public benefits advocacy, housing, legal services,
    and substance abuse by providing referrals and monitoring outcomes.
  • In collaboration with the Housing/Real Estate Department and third-party property
    management teams, schedule and facilitate quarterly resident meetings.
  • Participate in monthly third-party property management rent collection meetings in order
    provide targeted outreach and services to residents/households in rent arrears.
  • In collaboration with the Family Support team, organize and manage the execution of resident
    engagement activities such as workshops, support groups, educational and employment events,
    and children’s activities.
  • Establish and maintain connections within a network of multidisciplinary human service
    organizations for information exchange and referrals.
  • Provide Spanish translation during meetings and correspondences.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records and case notes in WHEDco’s database (Plan Street),
    including updating quarterly service plans, progress notes, quarterly narratives, and success
    stories.
  • Attend meetings and trainings, including team meetings, case conferences, interdisciplinary
    meetings, and scheduled supervisory meetings.
  • Participate in in-house and external staff development and training activities.
  • Perform other related duties as may be requested by the Senior Vice President.
    Qualifications:
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of related experience.
  • Motivated, creative, and resourceful self-starter who takes initiative.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Available for occasional evening events and meetings.
  • Knowledge of case management, advocacy, family/youth services, and childcare, preferably in a
    community environment, preferred.
  • Compassionate demeanor with an understanding and appreciation of professional boundaries.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
