Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Outreach Specialist

The Outreach Specialist assists the case manager supervisor with outreach, client recruitment and client intake operations of program. Facilitate locating, marketing, qualifying for services and linking potential clients with appropriate services offered by the program.

Through the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF), a community-based outreach program, we identify low-income veteran households and connect them with a range of supportive services to promote housing stability and prevent homelessness. Location: 349 E 149th Street 8th Floor • Bronx, NY 10451

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree (or 60 college credits)
  • Two years’ experience in outreach, social services or related field providing counseling and placement services
  • Candidate must either be serving or have served in the US Armed Forces
  • Driver’s license preferred

Outreach Specialist Principal Responsibilities: 

  1. Publicize and market program to eligible potential clients.
  2. Assessed clients’ eligibility for the program and complete intake of all clients referred
  3. Outreach to local Veteran affairs Hospitals and clinics, colleges, as well as local community base organizations to build referral source.
  4. Serve as liaison between veterans and staff members.
  5. Participate in, coordinate and attend community events, education workshops and fairs designed for veterans.
