Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Health Education Coordinator, the JAM Peer Educator will co-facilitate sessions of WHEDco’s Just Ask Me (JAM) program, a peer-educator-led sexual health and substance education program, at WHEDco’s partner middle schools, the Highbridge Green School and the South Bronx Early College Academy Charter School.

Responsibilities

  • ●  With Health Education Coordinator, co-facilitate JAM sessions about a variety of health and wellness topics for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 across our partner schools.
  • ●  Attend weekly training sessions to learn the JAM curriculum, practice co-facilitating, discuss health topics, and develop new skills.
  • ●  With Health Education Coordinator, co-facilitate workshops for WHEDco’s Teen Program participants, as well as parent workshops at our partner schools.
  • ●  Assist with additional health education efforts as necessary.Qualifications:
  • ●  Preference to applicants that have professional experience working with children in a classroom, after school, or community based environment leading/organizing arts activities.
  • ●  Substantial volunteer work will be considered
  • ●  Demonstrated interest in the field of sexual/reproductive health or health education.
  • ●  Comfortable with public speaking and group facilitation.
  • ●  Able to commit to 3-6 hours per week for the 2024-2025 school year (September-June).
  • ●  Available during Summer 2024 for training.
  • ●  Well organized, able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • ●  Patient, genial demeanor, with a flexible “can-do” attitude.
  • ●  Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, but not required.
  • ●  Current, active college enrollment or college degree preferred.
  • ●  Previous work experience in low-income communities.JAM Peer Educators earn $16/hour.
