Salary Range:$56,000.00 Annually Onwards

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Abide by Department of Health and OSHA regulations regarding kitchen hygiene and maintenance · 
  • Oversee food preparation process and any other relative activities · 
  • Place orders with food vendors as needed with approval from supervisor · 
  • Ensure and assist with proper packing of meals for satellite sites · 
  • Assist with constructing menus with new or existing culinary techniques ensuring the variety, quality, and presentation · 
  • Approve dishes before they reach they leave the kitchen · 
  • Arrange equipment service when needed with vendor · 
  • Communicate with food vendors for invoicing, mis-picks, delivery or product quality issues, and delivery delays · 
  • Place vendor orders for kitchen supplies and or equipment when needed · 
  • Ensure meals are delivered on time and arrive to sites at proper temperature and in good condition · 
  • Coordinate proper receiving and proper storage of food · 
  • Ensure safe handling and proper temperature control of prepared foods · 
  • Ensure proper functioning and cleaning of kitchen and kitchen equipment, dining areas, and adherence to sanitation standards. · 
  • Work closely with Program Director to remedy any problems or challenges · 
  • Assist with kitchen operation supervision and trainings · 
  • Oversee the quality of kitchen staff work · 
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards · 
  • Attend relevant BronxWorks and outside trainings · 
  • Additional duties as needed also 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Valid NYC Food Protection Certificate required · 
  • High school diploma required · 
  • Minimum of 5 years of Head Cook and batch cooking experience required · 
  • Minimum 5 years experience following Child Adult Care Food Program nutrition standards required · 
  • Experience with NYC Department of Health inspections · 
  • Proficiency in the safe operation of all kitchen equipment and NYC Department of Health regulations · 
  • Proficiency is all modern business communications including computers, electronic mail, voicemail, copying and scanning · 
  • Experience placing online food vendor orders and delivery receiving · 
  • Ability to forecast specific quantities of items to order based on program schedules 

PROGRAM SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedule and conduct 2 announced and 1 announced CACFP Site Monitoring visits between October and September, annually, at all meal receiving sites · 
  • Manage any CACFP Site Monitoring Visit corrective action follow up with the meal sites
  • Complete CACFP Food Production Records daily to reflect ingredients purchased and quantity used for meal production · 
  • Update weekly CMCC Kitchen Meal Request Calendar · 
  • Email menus monthly to meal receiving programs · 
  • Work collaboratively with Program Director to ensure menus follow CACFP meal guidelines · 
  • Attend CACFP trainings as needed · 
  • Assist with managing responses to feedback from meal satellite sites · 
  • Conduct food safety inspections as needed at family shelters, Afterschool, and Daycare sites 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • MUST BE FULLY VACCINATED AGAINST COVID 19*
  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods. · 
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. · 
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time. · 
  • Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork. · 
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents. · 
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation. · 
  • Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work.
