POSITION DETAILS
The Freshman Year Initiative (FYI) program at Lehman develops the foundation for students’ successful
transition into college and the acquisition of skills characteristic of a Lehman graduate through a learning
community structure. Reporting to the FYI Director, the Assistant Director collaborates on the design and
delivery of learning community coursework and programming that provide first-year students with an introduction
to the values of a liberal arts education and General Education requirements, the mission and values of Lehman College,
critical thinking within disciplines, the skills and knowledge necessary for college success and successful transition into college.
The Assistant Director will assist in the development and support of the FYI learning communities. Specifically,
they will provide support for faculty, including securing instructional materials, providing access to faculty resources
to support teaching, and connecting faculty to campus support services for students.
The Assistant Director will also work with faculty to complete administrative tasks related to hiring and observing faculty,
including collaborating with academic departments and Human Resources to ensure program faculty comply with College
and City University of New York hiring and employment guidelines.
The Assistant Director will coordinate with colleagues in the division of Enrollment Management (Office of Admissions,
Office of Onboarding, and Testing among others) to encourage students complete onboarding process and testing requirements
necessary for placement in select first year courses.
The Assistant Director will assist in leading and coordinating meetings of the First Year Advisory Committee,
as well as collaborating with departments and programs across the College to provide targeted interventions for
students during their first and second year. As such, they will serve on College committees relating to the first-year
experience, recruitment and retention of first year students.
To promote understanding of FYI and its role in students’ experience at Lehman, the Assistant Director will be
involved in the development of a comprehensive marketing and promotion strategy for FYI activities, including
implementing and coordinating communication plans and marketing strategies to support campus and student
understanding of program services using varied mediums including Hobsons, Navigate, and social media.
The Assistant Director will also provide support for students in FYI learning communities, including responding
to inquiries from students about the learning community structure and first year course selection. They will represent
the program at campus events such as orientation, registration, etc. Some evening and weekend hours will be required
at select times during the year.
In addition to administering the program’s daily operations and supervising support staff, the Assistant Director will
support the Director in carrying out special initiatives, including assessment efforts.
The Assistant Director will also perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree and minimum four years of experience in a college setting working with diverse first year and
first-generation college students. Demonstrated record of success with first year initiatives and learning communities.
Knowledge of current research and best practices on supporting first year students as well as experience with
collecting and analyzing data around student learning outcomes and program success preferred. Experience
building partnerships across divisions, including with advising, academic support, counseling, financial aid, bursars,
and special programs. Supervisory experience also required.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on time sensitive projects.
Experience using student CUNYFIRST, EAB Navigate, Microsoft Office, Brightspace/D2L or other student
learning management systems, as well as assessment software.

$56,447-$62,411, Salary commensurate with education and experience.
