Assistant Controller

Description

Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for supporting the management of
WHEDco’s finance and accounting department, including accounting, auditing and budgeting.

  • Supervise the accounts payable team and ensure the following functions are completed timely
    and accurately: processing of credit card transactions, childcare provider invoices, follow up on
    outstanding checks, issuing 1099’s.
  • Review cash receipts and applicable cash management entries.
  • Review and analyze the general ledger to ensure accurate reporting, communicating outliers,
    preparing journal entries, and reconciling workpapers monthly.
  • Monitor the Arts Programs expenditures to ensure the maximization of the contract.
  • Reconcile intercompany transactions with affiliates.
  • Assist with payroll expense allocations and related journal entries.
  • Assist in quarterly close and perform various account analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of the organization’s annual budget.
  • Assist with year-end close and the annual audit of WHEDco and affiliated entities.
  • Ensuring compliance with government contracts and regulatory agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience.
  • CPA Candidate Preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant work experience in accounting and/or auditing.
  • Previous non-profit experience required, and real estate industry experience preferred.
  • High degree of proficiency in the use of financial software applications including Excel and
    Word; knowledge of Fund EZ a plus.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interface with various
    levels of management.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to work in a meticulous, thorough, and precise manner.
  • Must possess the ability to assume non-routine tasks and to take initiative where appropriate.
  • Must demonstrate a strong follow-through on all projects, with the ability to bring projects to
    timely completion.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent benefits and competitive salary ($95,000-$115,000) based on experience.
