The Fund for Public Health in New York City, (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. In partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations expedite the execution of demonstration projects, help expand successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City.

Position Summary: Reporting to the Food Standards Senior Manager, the Food Standards Associate will be a key member of a fast-paced team that develops and executes innovative approaches to changing the food environment. This position will support work around the NYC Food Standards that apply to many settings, including foods and beverages served through programming, in food and beverage vending machines, at meetings and events and in retail settings including cafeterias and cafes. This is a 6-month position with an option to extend the duration (e.g., to Spring 2024).

Responsibilities:

  • Research product nutrition information
  • Conduct data entry and interpretation
  • Assist with nutrition analysis projects
  • Support site visits to organizations for trainings and food assessments
  • Develop technical assistance tools and promotional materials to assist with implementation of the NYC Food Standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, such as but not limited to drafting briefs, preparing presentations, conducting research, developing website content and reviewing and summarizing scientific articles

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must have completed their first semester in a master’s level program; nutrition or public health students are highly desirable. Candidates studying research evaluation or public policy will also be considered.
  • Candidate with culinary background strongly preferred.
  • Superior writing skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Suite, including PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience with NutriBase or a similar nutrition analysis software a plus

Salary: $20/hr
