Youth Education Manager

Full-time
Street Lab
Description

HOURS: 20-30 hrs/week
WORK SCHEDULE: Weekdays and some Saturdays as needed
PAY: $30-$35/hr based on experience, with possibility of transitioning into a full-time, salaried position
LOCATION: New York City

DATE POSTED: January 22, 2026

Street Lab is hiring a Youth Education Manager to design, develop, and implement a growing portfolio of youth education programs that so far include:

  • workshops for K-8 students at nine NYC public schools, focused on Open Streets;
  • a weekend leadership program for Harlem teens focused on public space and community engagement; and
  • a six-week summer internship for youth enrolled in the city’s Summer Youth Employment Program, focused on NYC Play Streets.

The position is temporary through Fall 2026, with the possibility of an extension or full-time position as Street Lab expands our youth programs.

Some days you will work out of our office, but most days you will be in the field—on Open Streets and in other public spaces—directly leading experiences for groups of youth, often in conjunction with Street Lab pop-ups for the public. In that context, you should be prepared to dive in and work alongside other Street Lab staff who are producing these events on the street. As such, you should not only have a strong interest in youth development but also a love of the public realm and working with the public and engaging with communities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and implement the youth programs mentioned above and develop new programs as opportunities arise
  • Teach youth of all ages, engaging and inspiring them in classroom settings and on the street
  • Manage compliance with all requirements from agency partners and funders
  • Supervise and train part-time teaching assistants as needed
  • Develop strong relationships with schools and other partner organizations
  • Write program materials, including curricula, policies, and workflows to ensure program success
  • Develop and implement program evaluation and reporting
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years managing and implementing similar programs
  • Experience with and passion for working with students of all ages and NYC communities, and familiarity with the NYC school system
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, including experience with public speaking and group facilitation
  • Strong organization, planning, and time management skills; ability to work in fast-paced, stakeholder-focused, team environment
  • Confidence in representing Street Lab and explaining the organization’s work to the public
  • Ability to access and manage digital communications on the go, whether on a laptop, tablet or smart phone including Slack, Airtable, and Google
  • Ability to get around the boroughs, by public transportation and/or bike
  • The job will require occasional heavy lifting and remaining on your feet in the field

Helpful, but not required:

  • Language skills
  • Knowledge of NYC neighborhoods
