Job Summary: The ESOL Family Literacy program at WHEDco follows the principles of project-based education and observes the strength model of family literacy. We are looking for a Family Literacy Assistant to support teachers and lead activities for toddlers and preschool-aged children whose parents attend the Urban Horizons Early Childhood Discovery Center. The classes are held Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. October 2025 to June 2026 at 50 East 168th Street, Bronx, NY 10452.
Responsibilities:
- With the support of the WHEDco Family Assistant prepare and lead age-appropriate activities for the children of the parents who attend the program (read aloud, collage, drawing, finger painting, etc.)
- Support the Family Literacy Teachers whenever necessary
- Set-Up coffee/tea break and clean up afterwards
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- High School/Equivalency (Associate Degree in ECE preferred)
- Familiarity with family literacy programs
