Overview:

BK Tile & Stone, Inc. in collaboration with Spectrum Interiors, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced Senior Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and expertise in bidding large-scale tile and stone projects across a variety of sectors. This role requires strong attention to detail, proficiency with estimating software, and a deep understanding of the materials, methods, and regulations that govern the tile and stone industry.

The Senior Estimator will be responsible for developing detailed estimates for projects such as multi-unit condominium towers, transit construction jobs, apartment rental towers, hotels, airport terminals, retail projects, corporate fit-outs, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities. We are looking for someone who excels at analyzing plans, reviewing scopes of work, and collaborating with internal teams and external partners to develop accurate, competitive bids.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed estimates and bids for a variety of large-scale construction projects, including but not limited to, Multi-unit condominium towers featuring cut-to-size stone, MTA, NJ Transit, transit jobs, Apartment rental towers (300+ units), Hotel ground-up or renovation (300+ units), Airport terminals, Retail projects, Corporate fit-outs, Educational facilities (college or K-12), Hospitals (ground-up or renovation)
  • Review and interpret scopes of work, project drawings, contracts, and insurance documents to prepare accurate and competitive estimates.
  • Use on-screen takeoff programs (preferably eTakeoff) to generate accurate material and labor estimates.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of materials, installation methods, and project requirements, including knowledge of different stone and tile types, installation techniques, and finishes.
  • Factor in waste calculations, logistics, and lead times for material sourcing and shipping.
  • Collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure all aspects of the estimate are covered.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and clients to foster business development opportunities.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client meetings as needed to gather information for accurate bids.
  • Provide value engineering (VE) solutions by identifying cost-effective alternatives without compromising the project’s quality or design intent.
  • Stay current on industry trends, material costs, and construction practices to provide informed and competitive bids.
  • Manage multiple estimates simultaneously while ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
  • Effectively coordinate with internal teams and ensure smooth project handoffs from estimation to execution.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years experience as an Estimator in the construction industry, with a strong emphasis on tile and stone projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in bidding at least three of the projects listed above
  • Material Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of different stone and tile materials (e.g., granite, marble, limestone, porcelain) and how they impact costs and installation complexity.
  • Installation Techniques: Familiarity with thin-set, mud-set, and other tile/stone installation methods, as well as the intricacies of patterns and finishes.
  • Waste and Logistics: Experience estimating waste factors and understanding the logistics of material handling and transportation.
  • Proficiency in on-screen takeoff programs, specifically eTakeoff.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, scopes of work, and insurance documentation.
  • Proven ability to develop new business and build lasting relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of value engineering principles and the ability to balance quality with cost efficiency.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with sourcing and negotiating materials with domestic and international stone suppliers.
  • Familiarity with OSHA standards, ADA compliance, and other industry-specific regulations.
  • A keen understanding of building codes, particularly as they pertain to tile and stone installations.
