Position Summary: Reporting to the Executive Director of Finance and Business, the Bursar manages the operations and staff responsible for the collection of all tuition and non-instructional fees, and the recording and safeguarding of these funds.

The Bursar is responsible for ensuring exceptional customer service to students, internal and external stakeholders across all communication platforms. The Bursar is also responsible for timely and professional engagement to inquiries.

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing and managing staff and daily operations of the Office of the Bursar, including but not limited to the collection and safeguarding of all College and Related Entity monetary resources
  • Administering College and University policy regarding the collection of tuition and fees
  • Developing and implementing strategies to ensure the prompt billing and timely collection of payments due to the College for tuition and fees, third party payments, tuition waivers, and miscellaneous business transactions
  • Establishing and maintaining policies, procedures, and internal controls for the accounting of all monetary payments for the deposit of such payments
  • Implementing strategies to monitor receivables and optimize collections
  • Providing regular status reports and monitoring performance against University targets and other relevant benchmarks
  • Effectuating all policies documented in the Bursar Procedure Manual and ensuring compliance of all Bursar staff
  • Responsible for the distribution of employee payroll checks
  • Overseeing the student refund disbursement process
  • Collaborating with all student service departments and programs, including but not limited to the Office of Financial Aid, Registrar, Admissions, ASAP, Information Technology
  • Closely liaison with Accounting Office to ensure all financial transactions are recorded and promptly reconciled
  • Representing the College as a BCC representative at University Bursar’s Council, attending meetings and communicating all relevant information to the Executive Director and all Bursar staff
  • Performing other related tasks, as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree and a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience as a senior administrator in a Bursar’s Office or equivalent required.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Strong skills in software products, including Microsoft Office required.
  • Experience with CUNYFirst PeopleSoft ERP preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment is essential. Evening and weekend hours may be required.

Salary: $83-93k annually
