Teacher’s Aide

Position Summary: The Teacher’s Aide will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment and preparing needed materials and supplies
• Supervise the classroom when the Lead Teacher is out of the room
• Assists teacher in maintaining a clean and orderly classroom
• Participates in the arrival and dismissal of students
• Participates in activities outside of the classroom
• Conducts classroom activities when the teacher is absent and substitutes in other classrooms
• Assist Lead Teacher to supervise and promote activities designed to enhance the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of children enrolled at the Center
• Participates in program planning and communicates observations to others
• Handles behavioral and other emergencies as per policy and procedures and/or behavioral performance
• Communicates observations and/or concerns regarding students’ physical and psychological status
• Completes data collection in an appropriate and timely manner
• Participates in staff meetings and supervisory conferences as scheduled 
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Early childhood education, special education experience and/or educational background
• Familiar with students’ handicapping conditions and their impact on performance
• Ability to have good working relationships with supervisors, staff, parents and outside personnel
• Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks

Salary: $20/hr
