Java Developer/Maven OverLay Specialist

Position Summary: We seek to fill positions in the Division of Information Technology (DIT) that will provide programming and other technical work at the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in New York City. Here, their primary responsibility will be designing, developing, and deploying solutions to various applications in DIT and troubleshooting and resolving errors around these applications. This software developer will be working on software applications across various teams and bureaus, so the programmer must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work under pressure if required. When not developing or fixing issues, they will assist other bureaus\teams by contributing to product development (deployments\upgrades\etc…) and improving internal processes (IT). Successful candidates are passionate about technology and will feel comfortable working independently and with others. It is expected that this position will work 35 hours per week.
Qualifications:
- BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent
- 3+ years as a Java developer.
- Experience writing unit tests and testing one’s own code.
- Solid computer science fundamentals: Data structures, algorithms, multi-threaded programming, events/messaging, etc.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance.
- Critical thinker with problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Motivation to learn new skills and technologies
- Good time-management skills
- 3+ Years of Experience in JAVA and JSP.
- Strong experience in SQL, Apache Tomcat, Java Hibernates, Log4j, Spring & Struts.
- Experience with HTML, XML, and DOS scripting
- Knowledge of Source Repository Technologies (SVN, TFS).
- Working knowledge of MS software (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams) and bug-tracking software (JIRA)
- Candidates with XML messages and XML framework, HL7 messages, and HL7 parsing tools.
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders to produce and review documentation.
- Motivation to learn new skills and technologies.
- Work experience developing REST APIs
- Experience in Conduent’s MAVEN software, data exchange/ETL software, disease surveillance and/or public health experience.
Salary: $90-120k annually
