Bilingual Peer Support Advocate (Spanish/English)
Position Summary: We seek a part-time Bilingual Peer Support Advocate (Spanish/English) to join our Kinship Reentry Team. The Bilingual Peer Support Advocate will support the Case Manager in implementing and coordinating services and monitoring and evaluating outcomes for each family. This position will maintain relationships with community members and families to ensure that the families will meet monthly goals and engage in services. We encourage applicants with “lived” experience of having a loved one coming home from incarceration to utilize their experience and knowledge to provide families supportive services within the Kinship Reentry program, including peer support, crisis intervention/prevention, and building a healthy rapport with the families.
Responsibilities:
- Accompany Case Manager on all scheduled home visits
- Escort families to various appointments
- Conduct bi-weekly check-ins with all families as assigned
- Assist Case Managers with monitoring families’ progress which includes engagement and compliance with program services and mandates
- Model coping skill techniques with families.
- Guide families in engaging and practicing new life skills.
- Create visual charts for new families
- Facilitate peer support groups for families.
- Encourage families to utilize peer support training
- Support with crisis prevention & intervention emergencies
- Attend Services Plan Reviews and home visits
- Contribute to effective recruitment processes and outreach activities.
- Document service activities (case notes, group attendance & creating groups attendance sheets in the database and all hard copies) via data input into Osborne’s database.
- Prepare for audit procedures as needed.
- Contribute ideas and effort to development and innovation within the program model
- Required to communicate the Spanish language effectively, both verbally and written as needed for Spanish-speaking families while providing services
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- HS Diploma or equivalency
- Peer Navigation Skill training credentials preferred
- Two years of experience providing peer support or peer advocacy services required
- Lived experience as a family member with a family member returning home from incarceration is preferred
- Experience working with families is required.
- Knowledge of community-based service organizations in NYC
- Ability to coordinate service delivery in a multidisciplinary environment that provides services to families housing loved ones released from incarceration
- Ability to be comfortable with the diversity of multicultural communities (ethnicity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, etc.)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (in the English and Spanish languages) and organizational skills
- Proficiency with computer applications, specifically knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office (such as Word and Excel)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
- Strong time management skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks necessary to accomplish goals
- Occasionally required to work irregular hours and travel locally
Salary: $25-27/hr
