Position Summary: The Youth Organizer position is full-time position. The main duties of the Youth Organizer are to recruit and manage youth organizing projects. This role entails the ability to become a neighborhood mobilizer and conduct outreach and organize youth year round throughout the Bronx community.
Responsibilities:
- Model appropriate youth and adult development practices.
- Strong community organizing skills or demonstrated success in organizing, strategizing, mobilizing.
- Monitor day to day programming operations (Establish programming logistics including but not limited to staff schedules, space reservations, resource needed, etc.)
- Conduct outreach efforts and engage with residents, businesses and organizations about community issues.
- Recruit, train and supervise program participants.
- Educate volunteers, community members and youth organizers about sustainability issues.
- Organize volunteer, community service and service learning projects.
- Develop programming that will help bridge the intergenerational gap between youth and adults.
- Recruit and support mentors and volunteers to support program initiatives.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two years of experience serving the community.
- Experience working with the targeted age group of youth ages 16-24.
- Ability to work with diverse constituencies of all races, cultures and classes.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent individual and group communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to apply creative and critical thinking to improve existing programming.
- Excellent computer skills including the Microsoft Windows computer environment, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and electronic communication tools; internet and email required.
- Demonstrated organizational skills required; proven problem solving and interpersonal skills; proven ability to work with multiple deadlines and multiple priorities.
- Flexibility, adaptability and ability to work in a changing environment.
