The Assistant Vice President (AVP) is the strategic communications manager, responsible for advancing the College’s mission and vision by creating and executing an integrated communication and marketing program that will enhance awareness of Lehman’s value and its distinctive place in higher education. The AVP is expected to promote an environment where high-quality creative work is valued and celebrated and to foster brand strength. The AVP reports to the President and serves as a key member of the senior leadership team. She/he will manage the Office of Communications and Marketing but is expected to be proactive in collaborating with the Divisions of Enrollment Management, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Institutional Advancement, and other College stakeholders to develop marketing/communication plans that support enrollment, retention, and other College goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide the leadership that leads to the development and execution of a comprehensive marketing and communications plan for the college, including themes, target audiences, media selection, and projected audience impact; develop budget to operationalize strategies.
- Manage the internal and external representation of the College mission to capitalize on opportunities to extend the brand integration process beyond traditional materials into everyday college life and experience for the students, faculty and staff and to ensure consistent and compelling storytelling about the Lehman experience across multiple platforms.
- In consultation with the campus community, identify story ideas that communicate the strength of the academic, educational and campus experience and enhance the reputation of the College on a local, regional and national level.
- Collaborate with the Division of Information Technology on web-related content, the development of social media assets, and the use of video and related multimedia resources.
- Cultivate a wide range of media sources and proactively connect the press to stories about Lehman College; facilitate access to campus experts and spokespersons.
- Lead and manage the staff of the Office of Media Relations and Communications through effective performance management, goal setting and goal attainment, and team building.
- Apply quantitative and qualitative market research to guide strategy and drive interest in programs and assess the impact of the campaigns.
- Write and/or oversee the writing of speeches and campus publications.
- Liase with The City University of New York Office of Communications and Marketing and external constituencies to promote the accomplishments of the College’s faculty, students, alumni and staff.
- Participate on internal and external committees and task forces that are aligned with the position and functions of the office.
- Perform other related duties as assigned. Evening and weekend work required.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY’s Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and eight years related experience. An advanced degree is preferred. The successful candidate will have proven experience in brand management and marketing and the use of marketing analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing and communications; superior verbal, written, editing and speaking skills, strong management skills, ability to communicate with diverse audiences, strategic planning and project management experience.
She/he will also possess a keen understanding of the use of social networking to foster brand strength and demonstrate the ability to think both strategically and creatively in the planning and execution of multi-channel communications and media relations to support enrollment, engage alumni, and advance programs and services of the College. Also desirable are strong problem-solving and decision-making skills; the ability to deliver projects on time and on budget; experience writing speeches, editorial content, and publications; and a commitment to the mission of the College.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
