Position Summary:

The Education Coordinator/PN Education Department will be part of a team responsible for guiding the design and implementation of instructional and enrichment programming at Phipps Neighborhoods. The Education Coordinator/PN Education Department will provide site-based instructional support for staff and be integrally involved in building and refining curricula and assessment instruments across Early Childhood, School-age, and Workforce programs. The Education Coordinator will collaborate with program and division leaders to implement plans to increase the quality of services through the development and execution of academic interventions and teaching/facilitation strategies as well as establish professional development to enhance staff performance

The Education Coordinator/PN Education Department will work closely with the Senior Director of Education & Capacity Building to set and implement the agency’s strategy towards achieving Phipps Neighborhoods’ mission and vision. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Senior Director of Education and Capacity Building to ensure the effectiveness of all School Age activities including curriculum development, assessment creation, instructional coaching, and quality of staff professional development
  • Support a broad range of programs including after school, summer camp, and Community Schools, Early Childhood, and Workforce initiatives in planning activities through project-based learning and other engaging learning frameworks
  • Lead a team of Education Specialists in their charge to build capacity by providing evidence-based instructional routines including observation, feedback, and using assessment data to drive instruction planning and continuous quality improvement
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of positive youth development, youth leadership, and social emotional learning.
  • Model positive youth development principles in facilitating workshops and Project Based Learning curriculum
  • Manage and ensure horizontal and vertical alignment of curriculum, assessments, and staff development practices across the programs
  • Organize and facilitate professional development and support staff in implementation of tools and frameworks
  • Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Education and Capacity Building, assist program staff with the planning and implementation of engaging lessons, units, and projects
  • Observe, provide feedback, and coach program staff in all areas of facilitation and learning
  • Manage the design, support, and effective implementation of youth-focused, goal-oriented instruction that results in academic success for all students
  • Serve as an organizational expert in all aspects of teaching and learning, including current trends and research in the field of education, youth and community development
  • Forge collaborations with program staff to ensure that curriculum and instruction meet the needs of a diverse population and meets contractual expectations and benchmarks
  • Build and cultivate relationships with external community partners and other stakeholders
  • Set and maintain standards of professionalism
  • Attend all relevant meetings, trainings, workshops, outside events and organization-wide activities
  • Handle additional responsibilities and functions as assigned by the Senior Director of Education and Capacity Building

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in the field of education, preferably including a combination of classroom teaching and administrative experience, in both school and out of school time settings
  • 2-3 years of experience in youth and/or workforce development
  • Expertise in the design, integration, implementation and management of an after-school and summer programming including knowledge of best practices in curriculum, instructional practices, and professional development
  • Experience in training and support pedagogical staff
  • Demonstrated record in achieving results in under-resourced communities
  • Familiarity with research-based approaches including hands-on, experiential, community-based and/or projects based learning models, differentiated instruction, mixed-skill and age grouping, culturally relevant teaching practices, and formative assessment techniques
  • Experience working with English Language Learners and students who are striving learners
  • Strong knowledge of the academic and social needs of the youth who are both in and out of school
  • Ability to participate as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of and ability to meet performance-based outcomes
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change and work within a results-oriented environment
  • Fluency in integrating digital learning and use of digital instructional tools including Zoom, and Google Classroom
  • Strong leadership abilities including an encouraging, motivating presence to help with conflict management, team building, mentoring, and coaching, goal-setting, prioritization, and strategic planning
  • Possess highly effective project management skills to successfully lead numerous streams of work in a high paced demanding environment
