Program Director
Position Summary
The Program Director is responsible for the development, management, and implementation of a high quality after school program serving 90 – 160 youth in our partnering schools or community centers. The individual will work closely with the department leadership to create a dynamic after school program utilizing youth development best practices and principles in conducting Academic Enrichment, Project Based Learning, Arts and Physical Education activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Program Director will be responsible for the overall program management and supervision; working closely with Phipps Neighborhoods and school leadership to ensure service provisions align with program goals and outcomes.
General:
- Develop an engaging program that aligns with the COMPASS/ SONYC model and meets the needs of the participants
- Ensure the program fosters a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment
- Create and manage systems for effective program operations, including the timely entry of data into the funder database.
- Design recruitment and retention strategy to ensure program meets contractual enrollment and ROP targets
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Campus/ Managing Director
Staffing and Supervision
- Oversee recruitment, training, supervision and performance evaluations of all after school program staff with the support and guidance of the Human Resources Department and Campus Director
- Provide direction and delegate responsibilities, promote professional growth and development for after school staff
- Oversee weekly timesheets and payroll
Contract and Budget Management
- Establish program goals and outcome measures that align with the contractual obligations
- Manage program performance and ensure the program complies with funder expectations and oversight agency regulations (DYCD, DOH, OCFS, etc.)
- Utilize programmatic objectives and priorities to develop budgets
- Manage all related programmatic budget oversight including purchases, reporting and budget modifications with the support of the Finance Department.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain and provide oversight of contractual partnerships with private, state and city agencies
- Establish and maintain strategic partnerships between Phipps Neighborhoods and relevant community groups, public officials, funders, and other critical stakeholders and represent organization to community boards, other institutions, agencies, and organizations
- Work closely with the Campus Director and staff to establish a common language and vision that speaks to Phipps Neighborhoods mission, vision and core values and the impact we aim to make in the community.
- Attend school administration meetings and work closely with teachers and staff to develop after school programming.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field and at least 3 years of demonstrated successful experience in a supervisory position providing services to elementary or middle school youth; or Associates Degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field and a minimum of 4 years of demonstrated successful experience in a supervisory position providing services to elementary or middle school youth. Must meet all the qualifications mandated for SACC licensure
- The candidate must have excellent management, administrative and communication skills
- Must have experience with managing DYCD-funded contracts and knowledgeable of OCFS School Age Child Care Regulations
- The candidate must have a strong background in program development and strategic planning
- Demonstrated ability to engage and build trusting relationships with program participants and caregivers, school leaders and community stakeholders
- The candidate must be committed to outcomes driven performance and have an understanding of designing programs toward that end.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer literacy
- Bilingual (Spanish speaking) preferred
- Enthusiasm, creativity and initiative
- A sense of humor and a sense of urgency
Physical Demands:
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 lbs and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as outreach tables, chairs and boxes of outreach materials. Employee will occasionally be required to attend outdoor events.
