Position Overview: There are multiple positions available in various bureaus across the agency, including Legal Affairs, Information Technology, Commercial Waste, Policy and Strategic Initiatives, and Solid Waste Management Planning. Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • For Assignment Level I:
    • Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
  • For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
    • Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
  • For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
    • Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.

    • Capability to adhere to DSNY BIT guidelines and policy
    • Ability to think “outside the box” and identify issues, providing resolutions quickly
    • Must be adaptable and able to manage and prioritize diverse projects
  • Commercial Waste Intern

    • Experience with creating user-friendly and accessible designs for a variety of media (print and digital) and audiences highly desired
    • Excellent writing and communication skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively or individually as needed
    • Portfolio that demonstrates a strong eye for design and attention to detail
    • Have a passion for typography, layout, visual hierarchy, and color
    • Practical knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe CC Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
    • Candidates with additional language skills a plus (Spanish/Chinese/Arabic/etc.)
    • Interest, coursework, or volunteer experience in environmental sustainability or waste management a plus
    • Video editing/animation skills a plus
  • Policy and Strategic Initiative
    • The candidate should have strong analytical and research skills as well as an understanding of NYC policy making, and general knowledge of the solid waste and recycling industry.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required; experience with data visualization preferred. Candidates in the fields of sustainability and resource studies are encouraged to apply.

Salary: $15.50-19.90/hr
