FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Hostos Community College Education Department’s mission is to prepare competent and caring practitioners in the fields of Teacher Education, Community Health Education, Gerontology, and Physical Education. Embracing a global perspective to address the needs of all learners, the Education Department nurtures students by providing experiential learning and by fostering a holistic approach to teaching and learning. The curriculum is designed to assist students develop intellectual, communication, and workplace skills that provide a strong background to further their career and education goals. In addition, the Education Department promotes faculty engagement in research and community service.

The Health Education Unit of the Education Department seeks applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position starting the spring 2023 semester. The position will carry out teaching, research, and guidance duties in related area(s) of expertise. Responsibilities also include committee and departmental assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other duties as assigned. Essential duties require on-campus presence. All CUNY employees must reside within a commutable distance to the tri-state area.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

The followign qualifictaions are preferred:

  • Doctorate in Health Education, Health Behavior, Health Psychology, Public Health, Community Health or equivalent.
  • Ability to teach successfully in various modalities such as in-person and online; ability to teach diverse student populations including students in high school to college bridge programs.
  • Teaching experience in College/University level.
  • Ability to teach health and nutrition courses.
  • Successful evidence of scholarly activities and/or record of extramural funding.
  • Experience in working with diverse populations especially underserved populations.
  • Knowledge and experience in administration in higher education.
  • Availability to work evening and weekend hours.

COMPENSATION

$64,649 – $82,928; Salary commensurate with education and experience.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Employees hired on or after October 1, 2022, and their eligible dependents will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, employees will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period. If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day. Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Enrollment.

An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request From and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
