The Academic Program Specialist/Early College Liaison serves as an intermediary between Hostos Community College and the Hostos-Lincoln Academy of Sciences. Working together with college and school personnel, the Specialist will maintain and develop collaborations that serve to better prepare Hostos-Lincoln high school students for college and careers while fostering mutual learing among the faculty, staff, and students at the partnering institutions. The successful candidate will be instrumental in facilitating student progress and success by ensuring that appropriate support mechanisims are in place.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Director of School-College-Partnerships. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates the submission of budgets to Central.
  • In conjunction with faculty and staff, develops and implements programs that support overall Early College Initiative goals, with particular emphasis on college-level curriculum and bridge programs that support student achievement.
  • Coordinates the development of student support programs that prepare students for college-level work.
  • Works with College and Hostos-Lincoln Academy faculty to set explicit performance standards benchmarked to requirements for college success.
  • Assists Director of School College Partnership adjust enrollment eligibility guidelines as needed.
  • Within the College, develops and maintains effective relations with the leaders of all academic departments and administrative offices; promotes understanding and participation in Early College.
  • Develops and maintains effective relations with the leadership of the Hostos-Lincoln Academy.
  • Promotes understanding and cooperation with College and community.
  • Involves faculty members-both at the College and the High School-in all aspects of the Hostos-Lincoln Academy program.
  • With the leadership of the College and the High School, fosters a school climate that supports both student and staff success and promotes respect and appreciation for all students, staff, and parents.
  • Uses program data to improve teaching, learning, and student success by monitoring essential indicators of program effectiveness.
  • Arranges for the appropriate use, maintenance, and repair of all college facilities and resources by Hostos-Lincoln Academy staff and students.
  • Contributes to the success of the Early College Initiative throughout CUNY by attending Early College Initiative meetings, submitting data, and identifying best practices.
  • Responsible for other related duties as assigned.
  • Essential duties require on-campus presence.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree and four years’ relevant experience required.

The following quaifications are preferred:

  • At least 2 years expereince working in higher ed setting area
  • Two years experience working with high school students
  • Availability to work evening and weekend hours

  • Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
  • Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings

  • Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services
  • Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures
  • Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials
  • May supervise office operations and/or department budget
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

$56,447 – $68,004; Salary commensurate with education and experience.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Employees hired on or after October 1, 2022, and their eligible dependents will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, employees will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period. If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day. Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Enrollment.

An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
